I love watching vlogs because it’s always fun (and sometimes inspiring!) to see how people spend their time (and maybe because I’m a bit nosy… hehe). Hence, I decided to make a Day in My Life series to show you a snapshot of my life. Let me know what you think and if you’d like more posts like these!
8:30AM Hello Saturday!
First things first- my usual morning routine to get ready for the day. My breakfast normally consists of something carby (toast, bagel, waffle etc.) with some fruits and nuts. It was a clean-out-the-fridge kind of day, which is why breakfast consisted of a slice of leftover crepe cake and bottom-of-the-jar nuts.
11:00AM Evergreen Brick Works
It was my mom’s last full day of visiting me in Toronto, so we wanted to go somewhere neither of us has been to. I’ve been wanting to check out Evergreen Brick Works for a while so that’s where we decided on going.
Evergreen Brick Works is a great mini weekend getaway because it’s close enough by transit (just a 20 minute bus ride from Davisville Station) but offers a breath of fresh air from the hustle and bustle of the city. It houses a weekend farmer’s market, a small shop full of local goodies, and a cafe/restaurant serving some wicked baked goods.
11:30AM Hiking (…okay more like walking)
Behind the brick buildings is a park with frozen ponds, paths, and hills for exploring. We originally were just going to go and take a couple of photos but ended up walking the entire path. I definitely did not wear the right shoes- some parts of the paths were still covered in ice so I had to be extra careful. Also, my poor frozen toes did not appreciate my choice of footwear very much.
The reeds surrounding the ponds were so photogenic, I had to take advantage and snap a couple of photos. Also, there was a sign about turtles that got me wondering- where the heck to the turtles go when the pond freezes over?!
2:00PM Warm Up + FOOD TIME
After a good two and a half hours of wandering around the park, we headed back in to warm up. There was a cute little cafe called Cafe Belong that had a display of drool-worthy treats. I decided on a hot chocolate and blueberry scone that was sitting in a pile by the cash register. The juicy blueberries peeking through the sugar-crusted scones looked too good resist (scroll down to see for yourself)!
2:30AM Aimless Shopping
Evergreen Brick Works had a small shop beside Cafe Belong with a range of local and artisan goods as well as a shelf display of succulents. After filling our stomachs with some much needed sugar, wandering through the shop felt like the perfect thing to do.
3:15PM Off to Bayview Village
It was still pretty early after we were done with Evergreen Brick Works so we decided to head to Bayview Village to stroll around. Bayview Village is a shopping mall with some boutiques and brands you normally wouldn’t see at your standard mall.
And… here is a photo of me dreamily staring out the bus window (probably thinking of food) on the way to Bayview Village:
5:00PM Dim Sum Time!
I couldn’t pass up the dim sum restaurant at Bayview Village because I haven’t had dim sum in so long! Also, not sure if this was lunch or dinner because we kind of shared a scone and hot chocolate for lunch…
Look at that radish cake! Mmmm….
6:30PM Grocery Shopping
My mom had a couple more things on her list to buy so we headed to Loblaw’s at Bayview Village to do some last minute grocery shopping. The only thing I ended up buying was dishwashing detergent because for the last few days I have been adding water to my almost empty detergent, trying to prolong it’s use until I found time to grab a new one.
7:00PM Home Sweet Home
We were pretty exhausted from being out and about the entire day, and spent the rest of the night in relaxing and eating leftover Korean chicken wings and rice cakes I found in the fridge.
All in all, I’d say Saturday was a day well spent! How was your weekend? 🙂
