As a self-proclaimed shopaholic who has previously made countless regretful purchases, it is safe to say that I have refined my shopping strategies to help combat my impulsive shopping habits. If you’re a fashionista on a budget, then these tips are for you.
Trends Don’t Last
That lace up sweater you have been dying to buy will most likely go out of style in a year or two. If you can’t resist from buying a trendy piece, look for it in a high street store (think H&M and Forever 21). Not only will this save you money, it will also save you from the regret when the piece goes out of style. On the flip side, if you are looking for a classic and timeless item, allow yourself to splurge a bit more if you want it to last for a good couple of years.
Wait It Out
Always check the return and exchange policy before making a purchase. There are always items you absolutely adore in the stores, only to find that you don’t actually love them as much as you thought you did when you get back home. Keep the price tags intact for a couple of weeks. There is a good chance that you either won’t love the piece as much as you thought or find something even better down the road (this has definitely happened to me multiple times!).
Match Your Style
Does this piece fit in with your current wardrobe? How versatile is it? Will it pair nicely with the style and colour scheme you usually wear? If not, then you may want to rethink the purchase because there is a good chance it will end up in the donation pile at your next spring cleaning. Plus, choosing clothing items that complement your current wardrobe will help you create your unique, personal style.
