We’ve all had those days when we wake up feeling a bit unmotivated and defeated for no reason in particular. It sucks, but that’s just life and we’re just humans. I’ve definitely had my fair share of those days, but I’ve incorporated small habits into my morning routine to combat them. I wanted to share what my mornings look like as well as small tips that have definitely helped me be more positive!
WAKE UP SANDRA!
I have a habit of setting my alarm clock almost every morning (even weekends!). I’m actually not sure why- I think it’s a combination of not wanting to waste the day away, and because I actually enjoy mornings.
Not that great of a habit here but let’s be honest, we all do this first thing in the morning- lie in bed for a bit and scroll through my phone to check messages, emails, social media, etc.
Next thing I always do is open up the blinds because I want to know what the weather is like for the day. Also, NATURAL LIGHT in the morning makes everything a hundred times better. Gotta boost up my serotonin levels!!
Not shown here, but I always open up Spotify and choose an upbeat playlist to wake me up and get me pumped for the day.
I head on over to the bathroom to do the usual morning bathroomy things.
Fun fact #1: I don’t wash my face with a cleanser in the morning. I just use a damp towel to wipe my face. I have dry skin so I avoid anything unnecessary that can further dry out my skin.
Fun fact #2: I don’t brush my teeth until after breakfast. I just rinse my mouth, sometimes with water, sometimes with mouthwash. Sorry if that grosses you out, but I just don’t really understand brushing your teeth before breakfast when they are going to get dirty again! Let me know if there is a legit reason I am supposed to brushing before…
BREAKFAST TIME! I’ve mentioned before that I always try to have a decent breakfast, it honestly helps with your energy levels and mood in the morning!
Also, a habit that I adapted from my parents is drinking a glass of water before anything else in the morning. I like to sip on water while I prepare breakfast. I’ve heard it’s supposed to be good for your metabolism, but my parents’ explanation is that it cleanses/preps your stoamch/digestive system in the morning.
In case you’re interested in what I had for breakfast today: waffles with berries and bananas + coffee.
I try to (still working on it!) wash my dishes directly after I finish breakfast. Don’t let your dishes pile up! The worst thing to come home to after a long day is dirty dishes in your sink when all you want to do is cook a nice, warm dinner.
Back to the bathroom to brush my teeth, put in my contacts, and wipe/moisturize my face.
A good habit I’ve developed throughout university is to MAKE YOUR BED! I don’t know why I make it after I am done with breakfast instead of right when I get out of bed… but that’s just what I do. But seriously, making your bed makes your room look so much cleaner and neater, which in makes you feel more productive/motived.
If I know I’ll be staying in to work on things for the day, I will sometimes skip makeup and let my skin rest for the day. But sometimes I will put makeup on anyways because I do find that getting ready and putting on makeup actually makes me feel more motivated. Dressing up for yourself is totally a thing!! 🙂
Also, thinking of doing an everyday makeup post- yes/no?
DANCE AND SING to a really upbeat song. Yup, I actually do this (perks of living along and having no one there to judge ^_^). Sometimes when I’m in a not so good mood, I will do this as well. It’s silly, but trust me- it helps! Just try it for yourself.
After my dance sesh is over, I’ll get dressed and do my hair (which usually just consists of either brushing it, tying it up in a ponytail, or bobby pinning the front strands up).
TA-DA! I’M READY TO TAKE ON THE DAY!! Ignore my dirty mirror please…
