Weeknight Routine | End the Day Happy

When I first started working, one of my main goals was the establish a solid weeknight routine I could look forward to every day. I love feeling productive by the end of the day because going to sleep on a positive note has a huge impact on my overall mental health. I’ve tried to implement things into my nighttime routine that would help in accomplishing just that, so read on to see what a typical night after work looks like for me!

Depending on how the TTC is feeling (hello Toronto friends, you know what I mean), I get home anytime between 5:40-6:00PM.

Change + Snack

I usually head straight to the gym right after work because I know that if I get all comfy instead, I most likely won’t go later. I’ll change into my workout clothes and eat half a banana or yogurt beforehand so I don’t faint at the gym.

Sweat It Allll Out

I’m super proud of myself for making exercise part of my routine! I’d say that this is probably the number one activity that has kept me feeling constantly motivated and happy. My fave part is the post-workout stretch when I’m drenched in sweat but feeling super productive and just goooood.

Shower + Get Clean!

Gotta shower right after the gym because no one likes staying sweaty and gross. I take out my contacts and wash my face straight out of the shower because I like to be all clean and comfy for the rest of the night. Plus it’s one less task to do before I go to bed!

Cook Dinner

For weeknight dinners (or most meals… let’s be real) I opt for pretty simple meals. Sometimes I just use my toaster oven to cook my dinner. Here I am munching on some red peppers while waiting impatiently for the diiinggg from the oven.

Dinner with a side of Youtube/Netflix

I always connect my laptop to my monitor (because bigger screen = more satisfying) and watch Youtube or Netflix while I eat my dinner. My current go-tos are itsjudyslife vlogs (her kids are absolutely adorable) and Friends. Not gonna lie, living alone can get a bit quiet, so it’s nice to have something play in the background for the rest of the night.

Plan + Work on Blog + Chat with Friends

I spend the rest of my downtime multitasking (planning, blogging, chatting with friends, etc.) while munching on snacks.

Planning basically means getting life stuff together (aka trying to adult). This includes recording any expenses, making plans, paying bills, crossing off/listing things in my bullet journal, and the like. I also try to brainstorm/work on this blog and my insta (follow me @sandraytsai for more snippets of my life!). My family and a lot of my friends are in different cities so I like to take this time to catch up with them.

Lately I’ve been snacking a lot on honey nut cheerios. I’m almost done with my current box and need to go out and get some more! They are seriously so addicting…

Tidy Up

I try to clean up a bit and do the dishes at night because it sucks to wake up to a messy kitchen when I’m all groggy in the morning. I definitely don’t do this 100% of the time but I’m trying to make it a habit!

Brush Teeth

After I decide that I’m done eating for the day (or if I snacked too much and need to stop…heh) I will go and brush my teeth.

Chill in Bed

At around 9:30, I head on over to my bed. Not to sleep, but to continue to do whatever I was doing before cleaning up. Not sure why I do this. Probably because the bed is comfier and it’s kind of like easing my way into sleep.

Sometime around 10:30 (I’m kind of a granny, I know), I’ll set my alarm and head off to lalaland! 🙂

  8. I love it! I like the idea of getting home from work and going straight to exercise. I rarely exercise, because once I get home I rest, and then I am too comfy to change that 😉 I really need to establish a routine, I am sure it would help me 🙂

    This sounds slot like my routine! I prefer editing and writing on the blog at night. Actually I prefer working at night in general. Gives me time to get other things done during the day.
